Registration is open for the FMS Spring conference and annual meeting in Lund on 24th March 2017

Registration (free of charge) is now open for the FMS Spring conference and annual meeting to be held in Lund on 24th March 2017. Please use the following link to register:

The Spring conference is open to everyone and is free of charge. The conference will consist of invited and contributed talks and will be held entirely in English. FMS will also hold their annual meeting on the same day. This is the administrative meeting of the society; it will be held in Swedish and is open only to FMS members. The meetings will be held at Matematikcentrums, Matematikhuset, Sölvegatan 18, Lund (a 20 minute walk from the train station).

The meeting will have two main themes, ”survival analysis” and ”communicating science”. The program has not been finalised, but the following speakers are confirmed:

Mark Clements, Generalised survival models Elisabeth Dahlqvist, Regression standardization and attributable fraction estimation with between-within frailty models for clustered survival data, Jonas Ranstam, What reviewing manuscripts for medical journals tells you about medical research, Emma Frans, Alternative facts and the statistician’s responsibility in presenting information.

Emma Frans is a medical epidemiologist who is very active in presenting science to the general public. She writes, for example, the series ”vetenskapskollen” for Svenska Dagbladet, has a popular twitter account, and is an active blogger .

Jonas Ranstam is an independent consultant in medical statistics and former Professor of Medical Statistics at Lund University. He has been described as the World’s Most Prolific Peer Reviewer .

The timetable will be as follows:

  • 9:00-10:00 Registration and coffee
  • 10:00-11:30 Spring conference
  • 11:30-12:00 FMS annual meeting (FMS members, held in Swedish)
  • 12:00-13:00 Lunch
  • 13:00-14:30 Spring conference
  • 14:30-15:00 Coffee
  • 15:00-16:30 Spring conference
